Microsoft has announced that there is no reason to wait anymore as its Lumia 735 Smartphone will be released in the UK on October 2 and you can buy that. The news got unveiled at IFA last month. The windows Phone 8.1 device is the first handset to launch in Britain with Siri rival Cortana on board. The mid range phone includes a 4.7 inch HD display, 8 GB of internal storage, a 2,200 mAh battery and a 6.7 megapixel rear camera with Zeiss optics and a f/1.9 aperture. It shouldn’t set you back much either, as contracts with the Lumia 735 included for free are expected to start at around £19.99.

One of the Lumia 735’s features is a 5 megapixel Camera on the front of the Smartphone for which Microsoft has claimed that it is better equipped for selfies than its rivals and the credit goes to its enhanced focal length and much wider angles. “With the Lumia 735, we’re enabling people to simply click and quickly capture and share what they want. It is a great innovation and it showcases the best of Microsoft experiences,” as reported by Microsoft’s Conor Pierce. Live Folders will allow creating a new folder for apps by just dragging and dropping one app on top of another. The new Apps corner will be a guest mode option for Windows Phone devices.

Microsoft is expecting for bigger things this time with the Lumia 735, as it’s the Redmond Company’s first Smartphone ever that is now attempting to tie in a number of Microsoft services together, coinciding with new CEO Satya Nadella’s vision of ‘One Microsoft’. The Lumia 735 is Microsoft’s first Windows Phone 8.1 device in the UK that comes with Cortana, Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s Siri virtual personal assistant. As with Siri, Lumia 735 users will be able to use natural voice commands with Cortana (who is named after a character in Microsoft’s Halo series on Xbox) to launch apps, search the internet, make appointments and more. Cortana now appears to be progressing faster and easier than Apple’s digital assistant Siri which is not at all contextually aware the way Cortana is. While very similar to Siri at the moment, Cortana is currently in beta so we may see new features that differentiate it from Apple’s virtual assistant in the future.

Other Microsoft services integrated with the Lumia 735 include Skype, Microsoft Office and Microsoft One Drive, which comes with 30GB of free cloud storage. Outside of Microsoft services, the Lumia 735 comes with a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor running at 1.2GHz which is incredible. Perhaps conscious that a phone packed with Microsoft services such as Microsoft Office might make it feel a bit dour and business-like; the Lumia 735 can be bought in a number of bright colors. Whilst the Lumia 735 makes a big deal of its Microsoft background, there is one name that is conspicuous by its absence: Nokia.
